No Gift to Bring
As I was riding in my car this afternoon I was listening to a Christmas song on the radio and I know that we have all heard this song so many times, “The Little Drummer Boy”, but for the first time, by the time it reached the end I had tears rolling down my cheeks. I guess the words of the song had never really sunk in before. I had always thought it was a cute little Christmas song of a cute little boy playing his drums for the baby Jesus.
I realized during the song that even as a baby, Jesus knew us and new our heart. After all the Word of God says, “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Mattew 1:23 So as the cute little boy played his drum, he was playing for God Himself.
The Lord has given each one of us a gift or talent of some kind. Maybe you aren’t sure what your gift is yet, but you can be sure that you do have one, or maybe even more than one. Maybe you feel the gift or talent you have is insignifican and no one notices. If that is the case, be sure to read the entire song and pay special attention to the very end. Your God given gifts and talents are noticed by the One who really counts.
There will be a day when we will all have a chance to lay our crown, our gift, or gifts at the feet of Jesus Himself and we will have a chance to actually live out the lyrics of this song. We will feel as the young drummer boy felt when, “Then He smiled at me, Me and my drum.
The Drummer Boy
