Government Parenting?

First government health care for all, now government parenting for all, what is next I ask you?

Legislation has been proposed to the state of Massachusetts that will prohibit a parent from forcefully laying a hand on any child under age 18 unless it was to wrest them from danger, lest they be charged with abuse or neglect.

Let us talk neglect.  As a Christian parent, I do my best to follow the Word of God in the raising of my youngest child that is under the age of 18, and is still residing in my household.  I use corporal punishment in my house that is my Christian belief and my right as a parent.  If you wait until a child becomes of age to discipline them (18), then it will be called a civil disturbance/dispute and both the parent and child could end up in jail. Now exactly what will that teach anyone?   And if you have to use corporal punishment on a child that is 18 it is because you have neglected to use corporal punishment when they were small. The use of corporal punishment is not to beat blood from your child, or break their bones, these are abuse and there is a law in place that protects children from that kind of abuse.  Are we going to spend more tax money to make the same law all over again?

Our young society is already in trouble, not to mention our government, so now we want the career politicians to pass laws on how to raise our children.  Can they not find something more important to work on than the remaking of a law that protects children already.  Fine if you don’t want to spank your child, you have that prerogative, I personally use my hands to love, nurture, and hug my child.  I use a paddle for the corporal punishment.

My son has been paddled since probably the age of 1 ½ to 2 up until now and will be until he is grown and moves out of our home.  Of course as time has gone by, the paddle has nested itself on my counter more than on my child.  You see the Word of God tells us in Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.  Proverbs 23:13-14 goes on to say, do not withhold discipline from a child, if you beat him with a rod, He will not die.  If you beat him with a rod you will save his life from Hell.

I know as you read the word, you are thinking “beat” oh my goodness.  Well we have never beat our boy to draw blood, break any bones, or even bruised him.  The paddle being a symbol of discipline in our house from an early age has taught him that there are behaviors that are acceptable and behaviors that are not acceptable.  The Word of God also says in Proverbs 12:1  Who ever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.  As my son has grown he has learned to respect the rod of discipline in our home, therefore it is used much less than when he was younger.  I believe as parents, we have made the right choice as to how to raise our son.  I am also aware that not all parents agree to or use corporal punishment, but that is totally up to them as parents.  As parents, we are responsible for our children’s actions legally up until the ageof 18, but as a Christian I will one day have to answer to God for the way I did or did not raise my children.  I do not believe there will ever be a teacher or any adult my son meets that will be frightened or intimidated by him.  That can not be said of many of our young society today.  Proverbs 22:6 reads:  Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.  We as parents have to take charge of our children at an early age, and not let them take charge of us, and we definitely do not need our politicians raising them. Please!  Corporal punishment at an early age would probably decline the number of prisners in our jail cells, improve the quality of education our child will receive in our schools and won’t cost $1.00 of tax payers money.
